It was reported that Baidu Inc., which is a Chinese web service provider headquartered in Beijing, had been accused of promoting illicit gambling sites. Moreover, this advertisement allowed the staff of the company to earn.
This information was provided by Beijing News, which was the third best-selling daily tabloid in Beijing. The investigation, which required eight weeks, was carried out by the employees of the newspaper personally. It is interesting to note that the scammers searched for the similarity with titles of the famous gambling houses of Macau, i.e. they used titles of such casinos as the Venetian Macao and the Macau Grand Lisboa. Baidu provided links to such portals on its website.
Apart from the unofficial investigation of Beijing News, the Cyberspace Administration of China, which is a central censorship organization of the country, has decided to organize an official investigation. Its results will be brought to light in the near future. It was also reported that it was necessary to eliminate the opportunity to offer data on gambling and other illegal activities.
Despite the fact that gambling is banned in China, those who want to try their luck playing various games of chance may enjoy such kinds of gambling as lotteries. In addition, there are special zones for gamblers. For example, it is possible to enjoy the entire range of gambling games in Macau.
According to Beijing News, online gambling websites took advantage of advertising agencies. The advertisement was organized in the following way: the links appeared on the website of Baidu approximately at 10 p.m. However, they disappeared roughly at 9 a.m. Therefore, the fraudsters selected the most suitable time when the highest number of players was engaged in gambling activities.
As for the company, its administration has decided to inform the police about the current situation. All representatives of Baidu Inc. will do their best to help the investigating authorities.
