British Horseracing Authority reported that drones had been used during races affecting the behavior of horses. It was announced that drone flights had been cancelled as a result of a collision. It occurred at the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Filliesí Stakes.
A jockey whose name is Frankie Dettori confirmed that he had noticed a drone and heard a noise produced by it during the collision of it with his horse.
The drone was owned by the British giant RaceTech. It was used to broadcast races. The drone had to fly 30 meters far from the racetrack behind the horses. So, according to the safety rules for drone flights, the collisions are impossible.
However, the British Horseracing Authority banned the drone flights near the racetracks until the accident would be investigated. Despite the fact that nowadays drones are widely used to broadcast various events, pilots should operate them carefully.
Taking into account the pace of new technologies development, we can assume that in the near future horse racing may be substituted by drone racing.
