PokerStars was released in 2001. Since that time it has become one of the leading online poker rooms in the world. The website is owned by Amaya Gaming, whose representatives reported that the company had prohibited citizens of Israel to gamble on the platform.
PokerStars has decided to redeem tournament tickets and credits of gamblers from Israel for cash. The company explained that the decision to stop providing players from Israel with services was related to business risks.
According to a message sent to official Israeli customers of PokerStars by Amaya Gaming, its services have not been provided for those who are either located or registered in Israel since June 27, 2016.
Gambling is not allowed in Israel in accordance with a law approved in 1977. However, the law does not regulate activities on the Internet. That is why many gaming operators offer their services, believing that they are acting legally. However, everything comes to an end. The government has started to try to deal with this problem.
It was reported that last the State Prosecutor of Israel had accused gaming operators of illegal transactions.
The next step against online gambling was done by the Jerusalem District Court, which considered Texas hold'em poker to be a gambling game. Therefore, it was banned.
There is also another cause of prohibiting gambling on the Internet for customers from Israel. Amaya does not want to have problems on the U.S. gaming market that may arise due to providing access to real-money games for citizens of Israel. So, the company prefers avoiding even potential risks.
