There are no regulations for poker games on the Internet in Russia. Nevertheless, the Russian market consisted of more than 144,000,000 potential customers seems to be very attractive to poker rooms, which want to enter it despite the obvious risks. However, the prohibition of online gambling does not prevent potential customers of online gambling establishment from playing poker. Moreover, according to official estimates, roughly 20% of population gambles on the Internet. That is why the government of the country is trying to do the first steps towards legalization of online poker. For example, it was approved that poker was a game of skill. The next step is, to be sure, its legalization. It is obvious that the authorities intend to make online poker legal in order to increase tax revenues.
Roskomnadzor has recently issued three licenses to online betting websites, namely Liga, Stavok, and 888.ru. So, it has become possible to wager on the outcome of sporting events on the Internet legally.
Roskomnadzor is also involved in blocking unregulated gambling portals. This policy is not quite new. However, the current scale of the process of blocking IP addresses is indeed impressive.
In June, Roskomnadzor banned Amazon S3 Cloud for advertising services of 888poker. Such changes affected the following resources: Netflix, Airbnb, Twitter, and Dropbox.
However, Amazon S3 Cloud has quickly eliminated the entire controversial content. So, the online file storage website was unblocked.
The most popular poker room PokerStars has recently faced the same problem in Russia. Access to it was prohibited for Russian residents. The first problems with connecting to the poker room appeared on July 8.
PokerStars recommended that its customers had to change the file user.ini to solve the problem that might arise with connection.
