The online poker bill was finally approved by the New York senate. It happened for the first time in the history. However, there were doubts concerning the decision of senators.
Approval of this bill was preceded by challenging debates between John Bonacic, who was supporting online gambling, and his opponent Liz Krueger. According to voting, the Bonacicís argumentation was found to be more convincing. Fifty three senators supported his initiative. Only five members of the New York senate did not agree to legalize online gambling. This meant that the bill was approved.
The issue of online poker legalization was not the only issue that was appearing on the agenda in the New York senate. Senators also discussed the opportunity to finally make daily fantasy sports legal. This issue is even more controversial than poker. It was decided to adjourn consideration of daily fantasy sports to Thursday.
The debates between Bonacic and Kruger were very interesting. Krueger was indeed active and asked numerous questions. However, she was initially against gamblers and was absolutely unable to explain her position. She showed her complete inability to provide reasonable arguments and convince others that online gambling could be harmful and had to be prohibited. It was also obvious that she had cooperated with the Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling. She also accused mobile devices and Internet services of turning American citizens into living zombies, because they could not cope with the desire to stop using their smartphones and gadgets. Compared to Krueger, Bonacic was really convincing. His answers were reinforced with references to different paragraphs of regulatory acts.
