The largest casino in Malta is going to celebrate its 53rd anniversary. It is called Dragonara Casino. This gambling establishment has been operating since July 15, 1964. The whole local gambling community is looking forward to seeing its upcoming reopening.
The gambling house will please its visitors with a new poker room, a lounge room, a new restaurant called The Marquis Terrace, and some gambling-related novelties.
Nowadays, Malta can offer four casinos to fans of gambling. Apart from Dragonara Casino, players may try their luck at Casino Malta and two casinos of Tumas Gaming Ltd. We are talking about the Oracle in Bugibba and the Casino at Portomaso.
There was also the fifth gambling house. However, Casino di Venezia did not succeed in competing for customers with other casinos and was forced to stop its activities in 2013. It is interesting to note that the local gaming commission revoked its license only this year. The local mass media have recently tried to find out how many gambling licenses can be issued by the government in the near future. However, this request went unanswered.
Representatives of the leading local media house Times of Malta even tried to contact the Ministry of Finance in order to figure out how many licenses for providing gambling activities are issued and what is the size of revenues obtained from gambling. However, according to the response of the Ministry of Finance, this information is strictly confidential from the financial point of view. Journalists were not satisfied with such an answer and paid attention to the fact that the public data should be provided upon requests due to the freedom of information.
The Maltese gambling world faced a scandal last year. The son of the former prime minister and gambling consultant were its participants. They were accused of some illegal gambling-related activities with shares of GVM Holdings. However, David Gonzi and Iosif Galea were removed from the list of the suspects.
