It is a common situation for $365 World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) Events, when the number of participants and prize pool generated by them are significantly higher than the organizers could imagine. However, the tournament of this series, held at Harrah's Cherokee in North Carolina, impressed even the most sophisticated fans by its scope, since it attracted 3,067 participants, and the generated total prize pool reached 920,100 dollars. Stan Weiss from Nashville became its winner. His cash prize was equal to 158,768 dollars.
Mr. Weiss is well known in the poker community due to his resounding victory in the $10,200 WPT Main Event at the Mirage Poker Showdown, which was held in Las Vegas in 2006. He managed to earn 1,320,255 dollars there. Weiss had to beat 384 opponents. There were a lot of outstanding players among participants of that tournament: Harry Demetriou (a 2nd-place finish and 673,272 dollars), David Williams (a 4th-place finish and 221,958 USD), Robert Mizrachi (a 6th-place finish and 129,476 dollars), David Singer (a 7th-place finish), Alan Goehring (a 8th-place finish), Haralabos Voulgaris (a 11th-place finish), Hasan Habib (a 15th-place finish), Darrell Dicken (a 21st-place finish), and Jason Lester (a 28th-place finish).
The subsequent Weiss’ victories in poker tournaments were less significant and mainly included games for cash with a buy-in of less than $1,000. However, he gained the 6th place in the final game of the $2,000 WSOP Main Event, which allowed him to earn 78,020 dollars.
The 69-year-old winner told journalists that he had had serious health problems, but the successful surgery had made him feel better and allowed him to spend time on his favorite game.
